In preparation for the NBA All-Star game, held this year in Houston, Nike Basketball is putting together a collection inspired by the city’s connection to space exploration. Here, the brand goes for something “extraterrestrial” with the KOBE 8 SYSTEM, KD V and LEBRON X. Nike, Inc. equates the fearlessness and “no limits” philosophy of space exploration to their design philosophy, which they believe is similarly based on breaking down barriers and experimenting.
With celestial motifs and alien-green colors, this collection is definitely out of this world. Spear-headed by Nike Basketball’s color lead, Eugene Rogers and graphic designer Erick Goto, the shoes allude to Houston’s history as home of the mission control center. Nike’s designers had it in mind to create a “fictitious basketball universe” led by none other than Kobe, Durant, and Lebron.
The collection will be available on Februrary 15th, just in time for the All-Star game on the 17th.
