Openings: Hellbent at Maxwell Colette Gallery

By - Friday, April 18th, 2014

Hellbent has been busy preparing for his next show Past Future Perfect at Maxwell Colette Gallery in Chicago. We were able to briefly catch up with the artist between setting up the gallery and painting a new mural. The pieces that are on display continue with his recent body of work and are part of the Mix Tape series. He explained that the paintings are “elaborate, abstract fields of color and movement, with compositions ranging from organized, quilt-like patterns to completely haphazard bands of weaving color.” It’s been a busy year for him and this opening follows other recent shows at C.A.V.E. Gallery in Venice, California and Mighty Tanaka in DUMBO. The opening reception is this Friday, April 18th, form 6-10pm. The show will be up until June 7th and the gallery is located at 908 N. Ashland Ave. Photos: Hellbent Text: Spencer Elzey
