Recap: Houston Rap at Boo Hooray
Boo-Hooray recently exhibited Peter Beste’s long term photo project Houston Rap, with the release of the book also. Houston Rap documents ten years of hard work by Beste. The 272 page hardcover book is crammed with amazing documentary photography which throws light on the south. Some of the rappers who appear in the book are such legends as, Bun-B, Z-Ro, K-rino, Devin the Dude and countless others. Peter also documents daily life down south, family members, strip clubs and local community leaders, in addition to show flyers and other dirty south paraphernalia.
The title is available from Sincure Books as part of an exclusive deluxe bundle packaged in a slipcased version of the book with DJ Screw/Fat Pat 7” vinyl, a fold-out poster, Houston Rap Tapes (the accompanying publication of oral histories), a DVD of Ghetto Dreams (the Fat Pat documentary), a signed photographic print by Peter Beste, and a 2LP limited vinyl edition of DJ Screw’s All Screwed Up. The Bundle comes in a Sinecure Books tote bag and is limited to 800 copies. Slipcase artwork by GONZO247. This version is not available in stores.
This book is a testament to the hard work Peter has put into documenting Houston rap, and it’s culture, and is a must have book for any photo nerds, lovers of down south rap and Houston culture.
