Photo Recap: Summerstage Presents Hip Hop's 40th Anniversary with Kool Herc at 5 Pointz

By - Tuesday, August 13th, 2013

To celebrate Hip Hop’s 40th Anniversary Celebration Summerstage decided to switch things up a bit and brought the festivities over to 5 Pointz in Queens. Kool Herc manned the turntables just as he did 40 years ago to the day before handing them over to Queens native Marley Marl. Summerstage, which normally holds its events in NYC public parks, could not have chose a more appropriate setting as 5ptz brought together graffiti writers, b-boys/b-girls, DJs and MCs to celebrate Kool Herc and the culture he helped father. The event also helped to bring more attention to 5 Pointz’s struggle to attain landmark status which in turn could help to prevent ownerDavid Wolkoff from demolishing the building.
