Photo Feature: Local Oasis – Graffiti Beach

By - Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

The small city of Columbia, Missouri has little to offer in terms of graffiti. It is a college town; and most students are busy with football games and frat parties. However, your mother always said not to judge a book by its cover. CoMO actually nurses a small scene for writers – the focal point of which is a hidden spot called Graffiti Beach. Untouched by clean-up crews or the authorities, Graffiti Beach is a storm drain that separates two downtown buildings. The place is covered end-to-end in paint. Local writers like BOHO, CHAOS, BNASTY and FAT hold it down, even while their work is being gone over with chicken-scratched nonsense. Despite not even denting the scene that is New York City, Columbia has some writers who are out doing what they love – and as we all know, that’s all that matters anyway.
