PREVIEW: BASK "The One You Feed"The Black Book Gallery presents “The One You Feed” New Series of works by Ales Bask Hostomsky, Opening reception May 2nd 6-11pm Black Book Gallery 555 Santa Fe Dr. Denver CO.
Bask describes this new set this way. “These works focus and revolve around struggle and conflict, positives and negatives. Each cryptic piece represents a struggle I have faced or continue to battle. This is represented not only through the layers of images within each work but also in the irregular construction in these multi-paneled paintings. This body of works is by far the most personal series of paintings I’ve made to date which is why choosing this Cherokee legend as a foundation for this series was particularly fitting”
A Cherokee Legend An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.” He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
