Preview: Bates x Kaos Exhibition at Gallery Konstart
Gallery Konstart will hold an exhibition of works by graffiti artists KAOS and BATES from August 1st-14th 2013. Gallery Konstart is working in collaboration with Wall of Fames 2013 (Art of the Streets), organized annually in Stockholm, Sweden.
The opening reception of the exhibition is to take place on Thursday, August 1st, 2013 from 5-9pm at Gallery Konstart in Stockholm, with an after-party to be held next door at Södra Bar immediately following. The after-party will feature DJ Mika Snickars’s funk, soul, breaks, and afro disco. Some of KAOS and BATES work will be on display there as well.
Bates was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and began writing graffiti in his early teenage years. He became one of Denmark’s most prolific artists within Copenhagen’s budding Hip-Hop scene of the mid-eighties. By 1989 he was already leading an elite group of European graffiti artists, including the likes of Loomit, Mode 2, Bando, Delta, and Shoe.
By 1990, European graffiti was becoming internationalized. Bates’ name spread beyond the continent, and he has since been invited to paint in over 30 countries spanning across all five continents. In his work, Bates tries to combine a traditional NYC style, emphasizing logical flows of letters and dynamic rhythms, with a European sense of sharp lines and flawless can control.
Kaos is of the first group of Swedish graffiti artists to have been a part of the Sweedish graffiti scene since the mid-eighties. With almost 3 decades of experience in graffiti, his style has been very inspirational in the graffiti world internationally. Kaos has shown his work at galleries, art fairs, and graffiti festivals. He also takes time for custom orders and murals for large companies. He was named the 2012 graffiti artist of the year at Kingszise Gala in Stockholm, and his art has been recognized in the books such as “1207” (2007) and “Kaos—Vandals in Motion” (2012).
The exhibition will be open for the first two weeks of August, Monday-Friday 12-7pm, Saturday 12-5pm, and Sunday by appointment. Private viewings can be booked for Art Unions and Press by contacting Jessica Mihai at firstname.lastname@example.org
