Rinse & Repeat 2012 from Rinse & Repeat on Vimeo.

Rinse and Repeat,” an upcoming exhibition featuring the work of 12 Australian street and graffiti artists, attempts to convey the cultural significance of street art by integrating art historical themes into modern graffiti. Artists Phibs, Teazer, Bridge Stehli, Shannon Crees, Teem, Fintan Magee, Guido van Helten, Cam Wall, Carl Steffan and Adnate, Slicer and Deams each selected an art movement – from the Renaissance to Pop Art – and created contemporary versions, drawing inspiration from some of history’s master works. By incorporating themes from various historical movements into their modern renditions, the exhibitors demonstrate the role that graffiti plays in the art world, asserting that it is itself, a movement. Check out a preview of the show above. If you find yourself in Waterloo, Sydney, be sure to make it to the exhibition which opens on December 6th at aMBUSH. Text: Nicola Parisi
