Tonight Ryan McGinley has two shows opening in New York City, each being held at the Team Gallery downtown. The Grids exhibition, will feature three huge grids of individual portraits of fans at concerts. More specifically however, McGinley spent four years capturing these photographs of fans who spent dedicated hours from morning till night at large outdoor music festivals across the United States and in Europe. Grids, will be held at Team Gallery on 47 Wooster Street between Broome and Grand on the ground floor and will run until June 2nd, 2012.
In addition, Animals will be housed at the other Team Gallery location on 83 Grand Street between Wooster and Greene. This show also will run until June 2nd, 2012. Animals features portraits of nude models accompanied by live animals in the photographs with them. McGinley visited a range of different zoos and sanctuaries where he set up mobile studios and had assistance from animal trainers during the process. McGinley did not consider these animals props of any kind but in fact views them as subjects of the photo. Both exhibitions seem to look really interesting and are definitely worth checking out especially if you’re in the SoHo area.
