Rammellzee "Letter Racers" Exhibitions at MoMA and Suzanne Geiss Company

By - Tuesday, February 28th, 2012

Its been two years since Rammellzee passed away at the age of 49 in 2010. In the 80’s and 90’s rumors swirled around the much talked about Tribeca art loft he named Battle Station. You needed a special invitation from Rammellzee to board and take a trip which according to the New York Times George Clinton and Bootsy Collins “left feeling like they’d just had a close encounter.” The changing landscape in the neighborhood real estate market after 9/11 forced Rammellzee to relocate to much smaller digs in Battery Park City and the aftermath was 20 years of art works had to be move to storage. Two upcoming exhibitions will be displaying this unreleased works one called Rammellzee: The Equation running from March 8 Through April 21, 2012 at the Suzanne Geiss Company, in SoHo, which will be displaying what Rammellzee called “letter racers.” This exhibition coincides with the installation of Rammellzee’s third set of letter racers at The Museum of Modern Art as part of the Print/Out exhibition on view here from February 19th through May 14th, 2012.
