Recap: 2501 "See You On The Other Side" at Soze Gallery
Artist 2501 opened his first solo show, See You on the Other Side, on May 24 at SOZE Gallery in Downtown LA. The internationally renowned artist included a series of ceramic sculptures, paintings, liquid drawings on plastic, and two new videos.
The focus of the show revolved around the omnipresent subject of mortality, existence, and the process of self-discovery. Taking a minimalistic approach to his art work, 2501 used only black, white, and gold leafing for his paintings and sculptures. Sticking to a simple palette allowed viewers to concentrate on the serious subject matter of his work. 2501 introduced color into his show via abstract paintings on circular wood panels. He applied acrylic paint to transparency papers with no intentions and instead let chance compose the painting. The results were a beautiful and spontaneous accident.
