Recap: Aqueduct Murals

By - Monday, November 25th, 2013

Joe Iurato was tasked with assembling a group of artists to bring a little life back to the Aqueduct Racetrack and he definitely delivered. When I first started seeing pictures emerge during the week I was a little worried that limiting the artists to include art depicting horses and racing would take some of the life out of the art and out of the artists creativity. After attending the event on Saturday and seeing these large murals removed any doubt in my mind. Each artist took the beasts in their own direction and they still had plenty to show in terms of their own interpretation and style. Whether it be the curved free hand lines of Reka, intricate paper cuts of Ian Kuali’i or the dimension accomplished by stencils as executed by Logan Hicks, each has it’s own flavor. The Aqueduct Murals is open to the public and permanently on display. Take the A to the racetrack in Queens. Text and Photos by: Spencer Elzey
