Recap: "El Artista en La Ciudad" at CentroCentro in Madrid

By - Saturday, September 29th, 2012

Mistresses, models, muses and wives all play an integral role in the stereotypical life of “the artist”. However there is another relationship the artist encounters which plays an equally essential role: the relationship the artist has with the City where they live. At Madrid’s CentroCentro, in this exhibition “El Artista en La Ciudad” or “The Artist in the City”, viewers explore this relationship divided into four sub-parts: The City as an Event, The City, History, Stories, The Edges of the City, and the Dreamed City. “Modern painting is either made in the city or from the city,” says José Maria Parreño, painted on the walls of the entrance to the exhibition, “in addition to being a space, perhaps even more so, the city constitutes a flow of events encounters and innovations.”
