Recap: Fafi’s “The Carmine Vault” Book Signing at The Hole Shop

On Wednesday night the New York Art Department welcomed artist Fafi to The Hole Shop in SoHo for an in-store signing of her new graphic novel The Carmine Vault. The enthusiastic crowd filled the The Hole Shop and Gallery to capacity for the opportunity to meet the Toulouse, France native, having made prior stops in LA and Tokyo.
The Carmine Vault represents another step in the progression in the career of Fafi. The Fafinettes are the unique, unapologetically feminine and sexual characters that she has created, they represent a refreshing dose of estrogen in the world of graffiti/art that is so often testosterone driven. The characters that have remained consistent from street work to commercial collaborations are now given a kind of context, as The Carmine Vault is the Fafinettes world.
The crowd of fans were all smiles as the affable artist stayed to make sure all books were signed and to pose for pictures. Fresh off his Resilient opening last week, Cope2 was also on hand to support his good friend from France. After the signing the after party at Le Bain with DJ A-Trak completed the evening. Parfait, Merci Fafi!
