Recap: Finok at the Ruttkowski68 Gallery in Cologne, Germany

By - Thursday, August 9th, 2012

This past weekend Ruttkowski68 Gallery in Cologne, Germany hosted the opening of Finok’s first solo exhibition in Europe. The show featured new paintings, a wall of photographs mounted between artifacts from late night missions, and a wall of kites with which the kids of the suburbs of São Paulo play. The exhibition is intended to reflect Finok’s personal journey; from the favelas to a “better” world – as he says – “without ever forgetting about the starting point.” Images of the kites carry over into the paintings, which are each filled with vibrant color and patterns. The artifacts from the wall also make appearances in the paintings. The fire extinguisher in one painting, a paint roller in another, a caricature of the artist caught red handed. Or in this case, his signature hue of green. Finok’s exhibition at Ruttkowski68 Gallery is up through September 9th.
