Recap: HKwalls 2015 street art and graffiti festival

By - Tuesday, May 5th, 2015

HKwalls is Hong Kong’s annual street art and graffiti festival. This year’s HKwalls just wrapped up their second annual event, sponsored by French fashion house Agnès b.. The mission of the festival is to create opportunities for local and international artists to bring their talents to the streets of Hong Kong by transforming large exterior walls into original works of art.

HKwalls is a not-for-profit event, and by turning the street into a gallery, it provides the public with free access not only to the completed work, but also to the entire process, from sketch to the final piece. The list of artists that participated is rather impressive, and includes heavy hitters like Egg Fiasco, Hopare, DEMS and Aaron Kai. HKwalls 2015 took place this past March and throughout the course of one day, building operators in the Sheung Wan and the Stanley Market district donated their bare walls for the event to allow artists to display their colorful works of art. The next HKwalls is tentatively planned for end of March 2016.
