Recap: Los Muros Hablan

By - Tuesday, September 3rd, 2013

Located in Santurce, Puerto Rico La Respuesta is an art/cultural space that has been making waves in Puerto Rico with a lineup of eclectic performers and artist exhibitions. One of their key projects last year was Los Muros Hablan. Held over ten days in October and put together by Celso Gonzalez and La Respuesta’s Jose Morales, Los Muros Hablan aimed “rescue abandoned spaces of the city”. Having tasted success with the project in Puerto Rico, they decided to bridge the gap with their NYC brethren and bring it to the historically Puerto Rican neighborhood of El Barrio. With some help from NYC council member Melissa Mark-Verito, the festival touched down recently with murals painted by Betsy Casañas, Viajero, Manny Vega, and Jufe among others around El Barrio and The South Bronx. The festival culminated with a block party on Saturday afternoon that lasted late into the night with people from both Santurce and El Barrio looking forward to the festival coming back next year and hopefully becoming an annual festival.
