On November 2, the eclectic La Luz De Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles hosted “Pop! Goes the Weasel,” an exhibition featuring new work from Nathan Ota. Viewers couldn’t help but be impressed by Ota’s ability to create detailed pieces that artfully conveyed texture. The work was so intricate it was tempting to touch the pieces just to test if it was really flat. Ota’s whimsical world was heavily populated by birds, eggs and a treeman most of which are images you can associate with his work. In a nod to his graffiti days, his alias “COOZ” was prominently featured in a few pieces as well as a large collaboration with his friend and WCA crew member, Risk.
If you are considering checking out his work don’t let the limited parking by La Luz deter you from checking out Ota’s show. The work is definitely worth the inevitable long walk. “Pop! Goes the Weasel will remain on display at the gallery until December 2, 2012.
