Recap: Santurce Es Ley 4 Brings Global Independent Art to Puerto Rico
From April 5th–7th, the streets of the Santurce neighborhood of San Juan, Puerto Rico were filled with artists from around the world who were working on murals for Santurce Es Ley 4. This annual project, which started 4 years ago, was created and organized by local artists and galleries in an attempt to unite the many micro-projects that independent artists work on throughout the course of the year. Similar to Miami’s renowned Art Basel event this project aims to cultivate a new home for the Arts in Santurce, an area with an ever growing contemporary art circuit.
SEL4 (Santurce Es Ley 4) is part of a new era for the rapidly growing art scene in Puerto Rico. With the main contributions coming from local design and music studio c787studios, the collaboration sought to expose the Puerto Rican street art, urban art, and graffiti scene to the rest of the world by having local artists such as Juan Salgado, Rimx, Damaris Crus, and Abey working along side globally known names like Nychos, Pixel Panchos, ChorBoogie, and D*face.
