Recap: "Sticker Pheinds 5" at The Slate Gallery in Portland
12ozProphet hit up the fifth annual Sticker Phiends showcase hosted by the curator Mike “Mad One” Neely at the Slate gallery in Portland, Oregon. Sticker Phiends is an art exhibition that seeks to spotlight stickers as well as other mediums often used by active participants in the graffiti subculture as well as the street art scene. This exhibition shows how stickers and other mediums have evolved from the streets becoming widely appreciated forms of art which are now displayed in today’s galleries and museums.
The show featured a wide array of work from graphic designers, graffiti artists, printmakers as well as local and international sticker artists ranging from New York to Arizona, California, Japan, the U.K. and beyond. Works from Peeta, Aroe MSK, Cope2, Pez, and other well known graffiti writers graced the walls with fresh color and style.
Despite the small size of the gallery, there was an immense amount of high quality work on the walls, so you were really forced to take your time to see every little sticker and peep every little detail. This year’s show had mad giveaways throughout the night donated by sponsors ranging from wine and beer, to clothes, magazines, graff DVDs and limited edition screen prints/stickers produced by some of the featured artists. If you happen to be in Portland, definitely roll through to check out this show.
Sticker Phiends 5 is at Slate Gallery located at 2001 NW 19th Ave #104 Portland, OR.
