REFUSE Brush With The Law

By - Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

RVA News recently ran a story on the arrest and subsequent lengthy incarceration of a Richmond Virginia graffiti writer. Mikael Broth aka REFUSE was arrested in 2004 for hitting up a freight train bridge above a highway and was sentenced to almost a year in jail. The article not only touches on the usual debate of art VS vandalism but also deals with appropriate sentences for graffiti writers amidst a nation wide crack down. Most people would find housing a graffiti writer with violent offenders unreasonable, but prosecutors in Virgina found it necessary. Be on the look out for a book he is releasing documenting his experiences.
