With reports from a newspaper article from Japan earlier this week, Sony’s upcoming system will be a bit more than $400, but less than the initial PS3 offerings of $499 and $599, which is a semi-good thing.
Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun reports that the next Playstation console will retail for 40,000 yen, which works out to be about $428. This would be a bit less than the starting price of the PS3 back when it released in Japan in 2006 with 20GB ($499) and 60GB ($599) SKU’s. the Asahi reporting seems to only list a single price point for the new console. Let’s see if that changes..
We expect to find out more about the system at Sony’s February 20 event which can be teased above.
