Review: Vandals By Nils Müller
VANDALS – The Book (Trailer) from Ruttkowski;68 on Vimeo.
Over the last seven years, German photographer Nils Müller has documented the international train writing scene from the inside.
The ex-graffiti artist is a self-taught photographer who uses his vandal intuition and past experiences to convey the complexity of a graffiti lifestyle. His latest book “Vandals” is evidence of his dedication to capturing the reality of the train writing scene in all its intensity.
The hardback book includes 192 pages of full color shots which depict real action; the tension and emotion seen in Nils work shows his commitment to immerse himself completely in the illegal train writing scene. He has collected photographs from his spraycations with vandals into chapters according to cities, each including an introduction from Nils himself where he shares his personal experiences.
This book isn’t just the perfect coffee table piece for graffiti lovers; Nils wanted to give people access to the underground culture of vandals and his passion for the scene delivers honest, beautiful photographs that offer insight into what could motivate writers to paint trains.
