Video: ROA's Dominant Species

By - Saturday, December 1st, 2012

The video documents murals painted by ROA and showcases his most recent exhibition, Dominant Species. It explores the destructive relationship between humans and animals as ROA shares his creative process with us. His work can be found all over the world, and with regards to how he decides what to paint he insists that his creative decisions are impulsive. “I try to know what species are relevant or are symbols of the culture I will only paint native species in a country unless it were relevant to the location like an abandoned zoo or something… I let myself be inspired by the impulses of the moment and trust that I will find the right animal for the location.” The Dominant Species exhibition was ROA’s second solo show in San Francisco and displayed found objects and sculptures alongside his beautiful monochrome anatomical paintings. Explaining the concept behind Dominant Species, ROA describes the show as a person’s “house and by walking in you have a part of his life and you walk in his head a little bit in that way you are confronted by the nature of the beast, humans”. -ROA
