San FranciscoMUNI CAMS

{image-1} For the last decade it seems that SF Muni bus system has been trying harder than ever to stop the graffiti on its buses. Muni buses in the city have been getting hit by taggers for about 30 years now and its become an ingrained part of SF culture among mostly its adolescents. First it started wth a “text-message” system in that riders on buses could text the police whenever they say buses being hit by taggers. It was later discovered that the number the text messages were being sent to wasnt even a real working number. That small problem has since been solved and the system is fully functional. However just the other day Muni says it now hopes to get “real-time” views from the security cameras on board each of its buses. It wold cost 6 million dollars in a Federal Homeland Security grant to do so. Would this be just another step in the ending of SF Muni Graffiti? Only time will tell. Text: Lou
