Screening: Linotype This Friday at SVA Theater
After years of obsessing over letterforms it’s natural for graffiti writers to have a love for all things typography-related. Gorey just posted this trailer and information about the upcoming premier of ‘Linotype: The Film’ at SVA Theatre this Friday. And there are still tickets available.
“Linotype is a ‘line casting’ machine that was used from the mid 1800 to the 1960’s / 1970’s. Our generation take the computer for granted, and it’s just going to get better, but this is the ancestor of all modern screen + keyboard machines. The complexity of the mechanisms make it a beautiful object that seemed so advanced for his time and yet couldn’t be updated. Come learn where a matrix transposition took first place, why is our keyboard called qwerty and how justified text spacing was done in the age of casting type.” -Gorey
