A Sea of Color – Murals in the Market in Detroit
After almost a week from the kickoff of Murals in the Market, it’s quite amazing to admire the sea of color. When 40 artists (local and international) began this journey, I don’t think the public knew what to expect. fortunately for them this is a great opportunity for them to view the work being done, to see how the process works and to speak with the artists. Most of us surrounded by writers and artists on the daily can take this privilege for granted, myself included. Walking around the Market, I have only heard positive comments, including that they want to see more. That’s extremely encouraging in a city where the people in office don’t realize what public art really means to the community. Maybe this event can change their view and they can embrace the fact that something positive can be done by artists with aerosol, instead of turning all their work into a bland sea of buff.
