Skate: Skateable Sculpture by Rich Holland

By - Friday, July 6th, 2012

{image-1} Rich Holland seamlessly combines the worlds of high art and skateboarding with this stunning skateable sculpture titled Aalto. It is the center piece of his exhibit within a show called At First We Take Museums at the Kiasma Museum of Modern Art in Finland. It is touted as “The worlds first large scale skatable sculptural installation.” It takes over the entire fifth-floor exhibition hall and in terms of its design, it engages in a dialogue both with the museum’s architecture and the roots of skateboarding. “The fact that a gallery is embracing such creations is an interesting juxtaposition of ideologies. Skateboarding adapts to the surrounding architecture and situations presented, each encounter achieves different results and expressions.” -Richard Holland More photos and full interview here Source: MLGallery
