Skewville's Playground Tactics Opens Tonight at White Walls in San Francisco

By - Saturday, January 14th, 2012

The Playground Tactics at White Walls SF exhibition is a culmination of a year of solo shows across the country. In each venue, they focused on one subject or motif. At Pawnworks in Chicago, their Not My Type exhibition focused on their typography, which was influenced by graff, especially Espo’s blockbuster letters and brush work, like the style he used in the roller gate series when he convinced people he was allowed to paint their gates in broad daylight. They even did a few pieces with the same strategy back in the day. In this exhibition, Skewville has taken their work to a completely new level. They created a multitude of complicated, detailed, diagrammatic pieces on urban and pop themes in a rugged and raw style with well-crafted, tough-as-the-streets materials and construction. These boys don’t mess around. Unless they are letting you have it with their poignant, tongue-in-cheek humor. All in good fun! Text: Daniel Feral
