Slayer Guitar Player Jeff Hanneman Dead at 49

Jeff Hanneman, a founding member of metal band Slayer, passed away in his southern California home this morning. His bandmates from Slayer have posted the following message via Facebook:
Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed. Jeff Hanneman, along with Slayer’s Kerry King was one half of the most brutal guitar tandems in the history of thrash metal. With the band since it’s founding in 1981, Hanneman was responsible for, among many other songs, Angel of Death and the classic guitar intro to Raining Blood off of Slayer’s 1986 breakthrough album Reign in Blood. Hanneman won 2 Grammys As a member of Slayer for best metal performance in 2006 and 2007. He was 49 years old.
