Stuck-Up Sunday: Shepard Fairey – Andre the Giant Uncut Sticker Sheet
Today’s sticker for Stuck-Up Sunday is this sheet of uncut Andre The Giant stickers by Shapard Fairey. This was passed on to me by Greg Lamarche (aka SP.One) while I was working on the art history book Stickers: from Punk Rock to Contemporary Art. My recollection is that Greg was at RISD in 1989, the same time as Shepard, who was experimenting with screen-printing the image on various colors and patterns. The sheet is featured in the Stuck-Up exhibition as it tours the country with 3000-4000 other stickers. Keep an eye on the Stuck-Up Piece of Crap website for updates.

DB Burkeman (aka DJ DB) was a club & rave DJ in previous life and now is deep in the process of creating a new path for himself in the world of art & publishing. His first book, Stickers: from Punk Rock to Contemporary Art, published by Rizzoli, is a 40 year history of alternative & Pop culture told though the medium of stickers. Although the book is favorite in the grubby hands of skaters, punks and graffiti kids, it has also been bought by university libraries, and is carried by the great museums of the world such at the Tate Modern, The Pompidou Center and the MoMA. While organizing a national exhibition tour of the stickers, being a parent and working on several new books, he can still be heard playing music that excites him here.
