Supreme / UNDERCOVER Spring 2015 collection available March 26th in New York and LA
For months, hype-prone Supreme fanatics and followers have anticipated the drop of this Spring 2015 Supreme/UNDERCOVER collection, featuring some very heavily punk rock-influenced materials and designs. The collection includes trenchcoats, leather jackets, sweatshirts, shorts and embellished bondage pants, and will be available in Supreme stores in New York and Los Angeles, as well as on Supreme’s online store beginning March 26th.
UNDERCOVER founder and creator, Jun Takahashi created the brand while studying at the Bunka Academy of Fashion in Thailand in 1990. His style is reminiscent of Vivienne Westwood’s historic 430 Kings Road store (originally called “Sex” and later “Seditionaries,” after her anarchist mentality and anti-conformity tendencies) and of her general alternative ethos in London during the ’70s at the height of an anti-government period, spearheaded by Punk Rock and dissatisfaction with the state of government affairs and political ideals. Westwood designed many of the t-shirts and styles that Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols was seen wearing around London and New York throughout the ’70s, and is well known as the founding mother of this eccentric DIY style.
Takahashi’s Spring 2015 Supreme collaboration is exemplary of the ’90s revival of these Punk Rock music and cultural movements. The collection, featuring leather jackets branded with the phrase “ANARCHY IS KEY,” is as blunt a motif as any can be.
