Throwback Jam of the Week: I.N.I. Ft. Pete Rock – “Fakin’ Jax”

By - Thursday, July 25th, 2013

This Throwback is for all you crate diggers out there. For 8 years this 12” single recorded in 1995 and the accompanying video were the only official release from the Pete Rock produced group I.N.I. Despite the song becoming a massive underground hit, I.N.I.’s debut album Center of Attention was never released on its own, although it did garner a small bit of circulation from bootlegs. The album was put on indefinite hold, despite being completed, when the distribution deal for Pete Rock’s label Soul Brother records fell through. It was eventually released in 2003 in a collection of Pete Rock recordings from the 90’s called Lost and Found: Hip Hop Underground Soul Classics. Though I.N.I. went their separate ways after the label dispute, Fakin’ Jax remains an underground favorite and a relic of what could have been.
