Throwback Jam of the Week: MC Shy-D – "Yes Yes Yall"

By - Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

Finding this Throwback Jam took some serious digging. For those of you unfamiliar with MC Shy D, He is the Bronx-born cousin of Afika Bambaataa, and played a large part in putting Atlanta hip-hop on the map back in the 80s. As one of the pioneers of the southern scene, Shy-D mixed the electro club vibe coming out of Miami with the more traditional east coast styles he picked up in the Bronx. However, What really catches your attention about this song is the smooth piano that plays as the chorus. As it turns out, the sample comes from an equally classic song by Issac Hayes, Ike’s Mood, which has since been used by several other hip hop artists including Nas, Mary J. Blige and Biz Markie.
