Throwback Jam of the Week: New York, New York – The Dogg Pound Ft. Snoop Dogg

By - Thursday, August 15th, 2013

The Dogg Pound caused a bit of controversy when they put out this jam in 1995. At a time when tensions were still high between the east and west coast, the Death Row collective taunted their Eastside rivals, and stepped into the heat of the fire to shoot the video for New York, New York. The video features gargantuan sized versions of Snoop, Kurupt, and Daz stomping around Manhattan, kicking over buildings, and smashing cars, images that didn’t sit well with a number of east coast heads who responded with their own LA, LA remix. The two songs and videos all capture that significant time in 90’s hip hop; the editing, the styles, the beats, and the east-west dichotomy all sum up an era that transformed the genre forever.
