TUBS Paints Calligraphic Mural in Chicago

By - Monday, June 1st, 2015

It was pretty awesome watching Chicago-born artist TUBS paint this massive piece in the Little village neighborhood of Chicago. Each letter is comprised of intricate, planned calligraphic marks. In some areas of this piece the lines are emboldened, in other areas the lines fade into the black background, and then there are splatters. The friction between this variety of mark making within the letters is incredible in viewing up close, and then step back and zoom out to see how these detailed lines come together. Using a paintbrush, TUBS created a piece that stands out and challenges the standard use of materials for creating graffiti art: calligraffiti.
