While almost everyone was in Miami Art Basel the last three weeks painting away in the sun, across the globe there was something quite similar, but not, going on. Check out the incredible ice sculptures by PAY 2 & POKER from Norway. A truly amazing and incredible Installation at the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi located in Northern Sweden. It is the worlds first (22 years and going) and also the largest Ice Hotel with 150 rooms. The showing was prepped over three weeks in november 2011. The ‘Ice Breakers’ suite consists of graffiti lettering made entirely of ice, spelling out the two writers names. Each letter weighs about 300 kilos, or approximately 4.3 tons! The snow walls have been carved to illustrate cracks, so that it looks like the pieces are “breaking the ice.” PAY2 tells us, “everything is Hand carved, using chainsaws, ice chisels and so forth.”
Then… Check Pay2 and the Boys for a cold breakdance routine below.
