Tyler, the Creator Launches Golf Media App; Announces New Album
Could you imagine taking a peek inside Tyler, the Creator’s brain? If you didn’t have ADHD before you’d be sure to get it after a few minutes of poking around. Thankfully, Tyler lets us into his cranium sans surgery with the release of his new mobile app, Golf Media, which he describes as “basically my brain, in one place.”
Released today for both Android and Apple platforms, Golf Media is available for free download at GolfWang.com. Those who sign up via the website will receive two months of free access ($4.99 per month thereafter) along with the inaugural issue of Golf Magazine, Tyler’s upcoming periodical. If you opt to download Golf Media through the Apple or Android app stores, you’ll pay $4.99 per month. Fans can opt out at any time.
As with anything Tyler puts his stamp on, Golf Media promises to be unique and original. So what’s actually going to be on the app?
“It’s a bunch of different things that are original, curated and constantly changing,” Tyler’s manager Christian Clancy told The FADER. “Original series, content, live streaming, radio, tour stuff, golf wang, interactive and whatever other buzzwords that sound mildly annoying and marketing-like.”
Golf Media is being launched in partnership with Whalerock Industries, and as Tyler said, he created the app to cut out the middleman in order to deliver content directly to his fans.
“A person who creates things, putting things out without having a middle man isn’t a deep concept. It’s like, why wouldn’t you do that?” Tyler asked.
“At the end of the day,” Clancy explained, “[Golf Media is] an opportunity to jump in a space everyone’s scrambling to figure out, and we found a partner that isn’t bogged down by politics and stuff that gets in the way of actually trying it the way Tyler wants.”
Seizing the opportunity like only Tyler can, the Golf Media app launched with a music video for his new single “Fucking Young/Perfect” off his upcoming album, Cherry Bomb, dropping April 13. Tyler announced the much-anticipated album on his Twitter page just after the app was released. Cherry Bomb is Tyler’s third studio effort and his newest release since 2013’s Wolf. The album is currently available for pre-order via iTunes.
Tyler’s entrepreneurship is truly dizzying with a new app, magazine, music video and album all announced within the past few hours. Keep up with him if you can.
