UNIQLO x KAWS Collection Drops Tomorrow
The legendary graffiti writer KAWS will make his return to fashion tonight with the Japanese clothing brand UNIQLO. The KAWS and UNIQLO collaboration will be available online at 9 P.M. tonight and be in all U.S. stores tomorrow. It will hit the rest of the world on April 25. The tees will sell for $15 to $20 a pop.
The collaboration was brought together by UNIQLO UT Creative Director NIGO who is also the founder of the popular streetwear brand Bathing Ape.
KAWS is known to be one of the most successful graffiti writers in the world today. The artist started his career in New York City during the 90s as a graffiti artist. His most famous works of graffiti are the ads he manipulated with his own unique characters. Check out this video of KAWS getting up in Soho back in 1997.
Although KAWS isn’t hitting bus stops anymore he is still respected among the street art community and by the fine art world. KAWS has been featured in exhibitions throughout the world and has sold his art for hefty prices. He has been idolized by the art toy community and his vinyl figures are considered to be some of the best ever made. KAWS is well known among the streetwear crowd for his Original Fake clothing line and his collaborations with Supreme, BAPE, Undercover and more. He is also probably the only graffiti artist to have a balloon in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Although we love all the work KAWS has done, 12oz would like to take our readers back to when KAWS was one of New York’s hardest graffiti writers. Check out these old flicks of some of his work.
Hopefully this won’t be KAWS last collaboration with UNIQLO. Knowing the hype from KAWS collaborations from the past, these pieces will definitely go quickly so be prepared. The good people here at 12oz wish you the best of luck.
