Vans Syndicate x DEFCON + LBT Sneaker Release
Just in time for this year’s Veterans day, Vans has announced the details of their second official collaboration with DEFCON and London Bridge Trading. The release follows their first collaboration with DEFCON back in October 2013; a Sk8-Hi Notchback “S” and Old Skool “S” styles in IS Navy AOR1 and AOR2 camo fabric.
Their newest collaboration has produced a limited Sk8-Hi Notchback Pro “S” shoe, borrowing from another fresh Naval color variant first introduced by London Bridge Trading, Inc. What you won’t learn from most other sneaker sources announcing this collab is the inspiration behind it and the individuals it symbolizes in its deliberate color scheme.
London Bridge Trading is a leading designer and manufacturer of tactical gear for US military forces, law enforcement and other governmental agencies and has grown to become a principal provider of tactical nylon gear since its foundation in 1985.
The primary color of the this soon to be released Vans Sk8-Hi Notchback Pro “S”, is officially referred to as LBT Maritime Assault Suit grey (MAS), originally introduced by LBT Inc. for the US Navy Special Warfare Development Group (NSWDG) aka DEVGRU and more commonly known as Navy SEAL Team 6. The primary function of Marine Assault Grey is to facilitate optimum concealment while performing vessel boarding search and seizure procedures (VBSS) and other covert maritime operations.
For those of you who are not well versed in military units and operations, or for those who haven’t had the chance to watch Captain Phillips or Zero Dark Thirty, here’s a quick crash course as there are more than fifty shades to this particular grey. (Pun intended)
DEVGRU is an elite group of maritime warriors operating under the Joint Special Operations Command (which, in turn, operates under the United States Special Operations Command). The individuals chosen from the US military for SEAL Teams have exceptional war fighting skills (amongst other notable characteristics) and are carefully vetted, selected and trained. The absolute zenith among them have been combined to form SEAL Team 6, which in turn is divided into color coded squadrons each taking responsibility for a specific facet of the mission. Overall, the squadrons that comprise SEAL Team 6 are tasked with missions generally classified as “unconventional warfare” which includes, but is not limited to, counter-terrorist activities, the capture of “high-value targets” and the rescue of captives. In other words, the most insane missions with the longest odds for success.
Because of the covert nature of the missions assigned to them, a driving ethos to maintaining the integrity of SEAL team missions is the absolute discretion of its members. They are widely considered the “silent professionals” and are bound by the highly classified nature of their missions and methods… That is, of course, until Vice President Steve Biden blew up their spot (figuratively) with the announcement of their involvement in the killing of Usama Bin Laden in 2011 and more recently, with the national uproar building around a SEAL Team 6 member stepping into the public spotlight to claim responsibility for being the man behind the trigger.
Former SEAL Team Six member, Robert O’Neil is slated to appear on Fox News in two part special starting this evening at 10pm EST to discuss his involvement in the raid that ended in the killing of Usama Bin Laden, provoking an array of media and military controversies throughout the week preceding the airing of the documentary leading into Veteran’s day. This political racket will likely be the cause of further debate as SEAL Team Six members continue to tell their story publicly, as well as present conflicting information about the UBL raid and the individual pulling the trigger on the gun that killed Bin Laden.
Anyhow, just a little context for you guys to add significance to an otherwise hot sneaker release from Vans Syndicate.
