Vhils: Exploding Murals

By - Friday, May 13th, 2011

Alexandre Farto, Portuguese based artist, also known as Vhils, is renowned for his murals. Using stencils, chisels and drills — cutting either directly into walls or removing layers of advertising posters and making some pretty crazy pieces. Recently released is a music video for M.I.R.I.A.M. To start it all off, he carved the images and faces that were to be filmed into the walls before filling in the carvings with plaster and hiding the pre-cut out pieces. The plaster was jammed up with explosives so that when detonated, the plaster would break away, leaving the murals to be exposed and the other sections together.
