The people over at the French website Graffiti Vice have developed a pretty nifty concept. With one can of black, one can of chrome and ten minutes, they put a variety of artists through what is essentially a standardized test for graffiti writers. The idea behind the project is to observe the styles that come most naturally when writers are put under pressure with limited resources. The results reflect the bare-bones of each writers style with limited flair and simplified letter structures. While the project is a novel exercise in frugality, it’s nothing new for anyone who as ever painted the streets, where the same restrictions apply in a more hostile environment. It is, after all, just some legal “bombing” on camera. But hey, go ahead and watch to see what these three produce, and hear their thoughts on the experience.
