Video: El Mac Gets Down in Ho Chi Min For Viet Nam: The World Tour

By - Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

In this video, Viet Nam The World Tour, brings El Mac to Ho Chi Minh City. El Mac uses a can of spray paint like no one else in the world can. Whereas most people would use a fat cap to fill in a piece or catch a fat cap tag, El Mac creates precise patterns of cross-hatching that result in larger-than-life portraits that maintain the feeling of graffiti while taking on classical notions of beauty in fine art. He breaks down and share’s with us his personal inspiration for creating art, difficulties painting in a new environment, and overcoming obstacles at a live painting event. It’s always a unique and interesting experience, to watch an artist overcome challenges while working. In this case, we see El Mac rethinking how to paint a mural, when he finds out that the paint he is accustomed to using is not available. Below is a mural El Mac painted in front of Sán Art, an independent artist space in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The painting was based on a photograph of Kosoom, the grandmother of El Mac’s girlfriend. You can read more about El Mac in this interview while he was painting the Montana factory.
