Video: Stamen: Berlin Fashion Film Festival
With Fashion Month coming to a close in Paris this week, Berlin’s Fashion Film Festival’s entry “Stamen” seems an appropriate way to celebrate.
Berlin’s Fashion Week takes place in July, and is not part of the superstar Milan/Paris/New York/London line-up. However, Berlin has a uniquely urban vibe that has seeped into its Fashion Week, differentiating it from the other more posh and established designer showcases. Berlin’s unique approach to fashion was visible in the final component of C/O Berlin’s exhibition titled Timeless Beauty: 100 years of fashion photography from Man Ray to Mario Testino, which you can see until October 28th. At the end of the exhibit, they featured the finalists from Berlin’s Fashion Film Festival, where artists integrated cinematography and fashion, creating visually-compelling, narrative short films meant to highlight the fashion, but still maintain a unique and interesting perspective. My favorite of these was Stamen, directed by Calum Macdiarmid for Vintage, which you can view below.
