Video: Steel Wheels X Steel Heels 2013 Recap
As Steel Wheels 2013 has come to a close, we see the release of this video short intended to share the excitement of this year’s festival with those who could not be in attendance. Included are shots of selections from the massive installation of painted model trains, the newly added “Steel Heels” exhibit (a curated collection of aerosol art on high heels), as well as time lapse sequences of the live action painting that was featured this year. Participants ranged from freight legends like Con & Jase BA, Worms A2M, Mber/Smash FS/Network to historic graffiti icons such as Wolf AOK. Attendees were also treated to a beautifully-executed “A Metal Future” piece as painted by Large AMF.
Steel Wheels is a tight knit network of enthusiasts devoted to preserving and celebrating the culture of aerosol art on trains. Beginning with the prolific masterpieces that colored the New York City Subways to their counterparts on the American Railroad that are now traveling from coast to coast.
For the 2013 installment of the Steel Wheels Art Exhibition a new element was added. The SW Crew introduced Steel Heels, the first exhibition of it’s kind featuring aerosol art on high heels and various styles of the women’s platform shoe. The video was filmed over four days during production and throughout the show. Multiple time lapses were shot with a Go Pro Black Edition. Additional stills and video were shot using a Nikon D600. Editing was completed with Final Cut Pro X.
