Voice of Art Documentary Series - Street Art vs. Illegal Billboards
This article was posted by sheacote 10 months, 2 weeks, 20 hours, 36 minutes ago.
Previously on 12ozProphet, we have made posts about the battle of wall space in Los Angeles, the LA Freewalls program, and the ban of murals in LA. While the battle of the artists getting the streets back with the city’s recognition is looking at a more beautiful future everyday, we wanted to share with you a video that had been shot in May, right at the dawning of the terrible news that muralism had been pronounced illegal in Los Angeles.
LA based artist collective Cyrcle exposes the battle between art and advertising. While law enforcement has been cracking down on street art and murals since the ban, out of this world laws have allowed major corporations to illegally place over 4000 billboard ads in their city, against the people’s will. Hear Daniel Lahoda of LA Freewalls, street artists, muralists, graffiti artists, designers, and the Cyrcle team talk about the changing face of the city of Los Angeles, and money versus culture.
