Wax Poetics Showcases DJ Premier at Le Poisson Rouge

By - Friday, September 30th, 2011

Last night, super producer DJ Premier played to a packed house in the West Village. Soul crooner Kendra Morris opened the stage for the Gang Starr DJ as part of Wax Poetics Records’ Monthly Showcase at Le Poisson Rouge. B-boys peppered the dance floor in ciphers, all in anticipation of Premo’s set. Premier kicked things off with a tribute to Michael Jackson, also paying homage to Guru and Sugar Hill Records founder Sylvia Robinson, who passed away yesterday. He brought friends 9th Wonder and Rapsody to the stage, while playing classic gems and signing Gang Starr memorabilia for fans. Towards the end of Premier’s set Kendra Morris (in talks with Premo for a future collaboration) joined her fans on the dance floor as they closed up shop at LPR. Text and Photo: Steven Lau
