The event is a tribute to the man who inspired me to want to write graffiti more than anyone else. In my opinion he rocked the greatest tag in the culture’s history.
The fundraiser’s purpose is to show his family that the culture he did so much for (graffiti and street art alike) recognize his contribution.
Dirtypilot.com a site that is a staple in selling graffiti art online has generously donated their website from 9/15-10/14 to showcase the myriad of works
submitted by an amazing line-up of artists. We pooled our contacts and were very touched by the great response. Wayne Roberts was a beautiful humble cat whose name will ring out in art history books a hundred years from now.
All monies from sales will go to Stay high 149’s children, Dwayne and Michelle. I would like to thank all the talented people who got down for the cause.
I am overwhelmed at the scope and variety of work submitted . It’s a true testament to a future American Folk Hero. The show goes online at midnight tonight.
Behold a little sampler of what’s to come:
Cope 2
Daze
Dr. Revolt
Kaves
Shame 125
Part One TDS
The Stay High 149 and “voice of the ghetto” tags defined an era, when 42nd street was the Wild West and you had to hold on tightly to your purse or wallet. Funk filled the air and NYC still had an edge to it. I miss those times and Stay High 149!
